Unbelievable.:
Take a quick moment to read Andrea Corradini’s blog post above.

Yesterday, her sister Katie received an e-mail by mistake, intended for the president of the UVA Delta Gamma chapter. Kind of amazing, really disgusting.

Look do what you want but my brother and his girlfriend are...

Look do what you want but my brother and his girlfriend are pretty awesome, see?

Early morning before Claire’s wedding.
Highly recommend Thursday 9/8 at the Lizard Lounge, Cambridge: Kimon Kirk, who’s played with the likes of Aimee Mann, Grant Lee Phillips, Amy Correia and Session Americana, debuts his first full-length record release, ‘Songs For Society.’ The record includes songs co-written with Mann as well as David Champagne and Jim Fitting (formerly of one of Boston’s favorite groups, Treat Her Right). The new album is a little pop, a little cowboy, a little ballad, and a lot awesome. A few tracks may be in your head after just one listen (in a really good way).

Kimon and his band the Meds, comprised of guitarist Lyle Brewer (Sarah Borges, Ryan Montbleau), keyboardist Jamie Edwards (Aimee Mann), bassist Joe Klompus (Letters to Cleo) and drummer Andy Plaisted (Tim Gearan, the Giant Kings) promise an evening of uncompromising musicality and style.

He was a grandfather in the truest sense of the word. Mentor in my education and career; thinker and outrageously funny. I don’t cross a street without thinking of his line “let’s cross on the crosswalk so if we get hit it’s not our fault.”

This photo was taken on my 30th birthday, April 1, 2011, having lunch in the North End in Boston. Ciao, Gramps. (And I hope we wrote your obituary with close to zero errors).

David Harry Shook

November 18, 1924 - August 14, 2011

In early July, David Harry Shook, just a few months shy of his 87th birthday, drove from his home in Duxbury, MA, to a family reunion in Nashville, TN. There, he fell ill, and after a valiant fight for recovery, passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, August 14, with family by his side.

David was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle; he was a man who made and kept friends easily; he was always wise, decent, and very funny.

David was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, where he attended Ottawa Hills High School. He followed his older brother to Harvard University where he graduated in the class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy during his college years, and while stationed in California, met and courted Patricia Muir, also of Grand Rapids. She became the love of his life, and they were married for 59 years.

His professional career in advertising kept David, Patricia, and their three children moving for the next 40 years. David worked for Procter & Gamble from 1952 to 1966. In that time, the Shook family resided in Austin, TX; Cincinnati, OH; Rome, Italy; Caracas, Venezuela; and New Canaan, CT. He worked for General Foods from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. He was honest, dedicated, and loyal to his employers and colleagues. David and Patty retired first to Brewster, MA, then to The Village at Duxbury.

Most important to him were family, friends, and the pursuit of a life well lived. The Muirs, Shooks, and their families from all over the U.S. held reunions starting in the late 1950s; he was always an avuncular presence. Many will remember him as a mentor for he always took time to listen, think, and thoughtfully advise. He and Patricia were renowned as gracious hosts and guests in their active social life. His selfless dedication to his wife’s care in her last years is remembered gratefully by his family.

In retirement, his life and intellectual interests remained rich. He read voraciously, and rarely missed a Red Sox game or The Daily Show. He served on boards and committees including The Cape Cod Symphony, The Harvard Club, and The Finance Committee at The Village at Duxbury. He never resigned his post as a custodian of the English language.

He is survived by his son Stephen and his wife Lisa, his son Michael and his wife Susan, his daughter Martha and his son in law, Tom. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Elizabeth, Daniel, Amy and her husband Tom, Eben, Peter, Mary, his great-grandchildren Joseph and Zoe, and extended family across the country.

He leaves behind a true legacy built of love, compassion, humor, and good grammar.

A celebration of his life will be held at First Congregational Parish, 222 Main Street, Kingston, MA, on Saturday, September 24, at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harvard Club of Cape Cod Scholarship Fund, Attention: Harvard College Recording Secretary’s Office, 124 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.

It’s real nice to be back.

It’s real nice to be back.

If the kite falls, it’s going in the woods.

If the kite falls, it’s going in the woods.

Listen. The creative, the wit, the wisdom, the sass, the visions, the jokes and yes, the drinks. When I got there I’d sort of lost any drive to be part of the industry and within a week—really, that’s all it took—I was back and ignited to move and work with the people there. I didn’t get to work on most of the stuff featured in this article, but working with the people who did was so awesome. See you guys in the next rounds and places where we go to make the ideas.

If your name is Elizabeth you drink for free.

If your name is Elizabeth you drink for free.

Photo

Turns out Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants is 30 today too.
